SUNY New Paltz cracks AVCA Top 15 at No. 9 spot; Springfield still on top
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- After SUNY New Paltz started its season 5-0 and defeated three nationally ranked squads, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division III Men's Coaches Top-15 Poll voters took notice, as the Hawks earned 104 total points en route to receiving a No. 9 ranking in the first regular-season release of the national poll.

The Hawks beat then-No. 14 Hunter College on Wednesday before going 4-0 at the Live Free or Die Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Nashua, N.H.
While there, New Paltz downed Daniel Webster, then-No. 9 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then-No. 7 Rivier and Endicott. By winning a tiebreaker against Baruch, who also went 4-0, New Paltz was crowned tournament champion.
Preseason favorite Springfield topped the week one poll with 238 total points and 15 first-place votes.
In addition to New Paltz, No. 5 Nazareth, No. 6 Stevens, No. 7 NYU, No. 11 Medaille and No. 12 Vassar represented the United Volleyball Conference (UVC).
