No. 6 Stevens defeats No. 11 Stevenson, falls to third-ranked Juniata
HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- No. 6 Stevens split a pair of matches between teams in the AVCA Top 15 at Juniata's Kennedy S&R Center on Saturday. Stevens took down No. 11 Stevenson for the second time this season but fell to No. 3 Juniata. The Ducks improved to 16-5 on the season.
Stevens found themselves down two sets in the opener against the Mustangs but fought back to win in five (23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-11). As a team, the Ducks recorded 15 total blocks behind seven a piece from seniors Thomas Hannum and Jake Modestow. Hannum recorded six block assists with one solo and registered a team-high 15 kills (and a .414 hitting percentage) in the win. Modestow posted four block assists and three solo blocks to go along with five kills.
Junior Ryan Seifert eclipsed double-digit kills with 14 in four sets and added five total blocks. Sophomore Etan Bennett chipped in nine kills in 10 tries with three blocks.
Sophomore Kevin Aeckerle dished out a team-best 30 assists, while freshman Chris Vaughan got a match-high 17 digs. Junior David Evans narrowly missed a double-double with nine digs and seven kills.
In a highly contested match against Juniata (25-23, 27-29, 33-31, 25-19), Seifert pounded down 24 kills to lead all players and hit .362 in the match with nine digs and five blocks.
Stevens played solid defensively against the Eagles with 13.5 blocks. Modestow added five more to his total on the day, while Bennett paced the Ducks with six blocks. Bennett also chipped in eight more kills and hit at a .538 clip, while Modestow contributed six kills.
Aeckerle picked up his fifth 50-plus assist effort with 54 in the loss. Vaughan got double-digit digs once again with 11, while Evans and Hannum combined for 21 kills, 12 digs and seven blocks.
Evans posted 11 kills, five digs and three blocks, while Hannum recorded 10 kills, seven digs and four blocks.
