Baruch knocks off Stevens in three sets to advance to national semifinals
Baruch swept Stevens in the quarterfinals of the national championship to advance to its second semifinal round in three years.
The Bearcats won by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 to advance to Saturday’s semifinal match against Springfield.
The Bearcats were on fire from the start and jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening set.
They continued with their solid hitting and blocking through the next two sets, frustrating their opponents for the match victory that lasted 70 minutes.
Baruch hit .400 in the third set, which helped prevent the Ducks from mounting a rally.
For the Bearcats, Jack McKee led the way with 10 kills, Steven Coniglio had nine kills and hit .692, while George Chave collected eight digs and Martin Joksimovik had five block solos.
Ian Tyger led Stevens with 13 kills in 28 attempts with six digs and two blocks. Kevin Aeckerle handed out a team-high 28 assists to go along with three blocks and two digs to highlight the Ducks' top performers.
