WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The fifth-ranked Lady Blues season came to a close with a 3-0 loss to ninth-ranked Central Missouri in the South Central Regional Final on Saturday night at the UCM Multi. The Jennies won 25-15, 25-23, 25-18. The Lady Blues close the season with a 32-3 record.
The first set was tied 5-5 when the Jennies (31-4) rattled off a 15-4 run to lead 20-9 and Washburn never recovered. UCM hit .394 in the set, while the Lady Blues were held to 10 kills and a .125 hitting percentage.
WU grabbed its first lead of the night at 5-4 in the second set. The frame went back-and-forth until Central gained control with a 5-0 run to go up 17-12. The Lady Blues rallied to within 19-18 and 24-23, but the Jennies closed it out on a WU attacking error.
The third set was similar to the first with UCM taking control with an 11-1 run midway through the set. The Jens closed it out 25-18.
Aubri Renshaw led Washburn with nine kills, while Jessica Fey had eight. Molly Smith had 18 digs. The Lady Blues hit just .179, while UCM hit .301.
Allie Huffman led UCM with 15 kills and Abby Gruenbacher had 13.
Fey, Renshaw, Molly Smith and Mollie Lacy were all named to the South Central Regional All-Tournament Team.
