Lawrence comes to the Evergreen campus after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Georgetown. He organized the Hoyas’ offense, trained the team’s middle hitters and was largely responsible for the recruiting of student-athletes and scouting of upcomingopponents.

“We welcome Jake to Loyola and are excited that he is our head volleyball coach,” Paquette said. “His strong background at fellow Jesuit institutions as an undergraduate (Xavier) and assistant coach (Georgetown) have helped him develop a deep understanding of Loyola’s mission.”

Loyola Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student-Athlete Welfare, and the volleyball sport supervisor, Bill Wnek added, “Jake’s experience both on the court and at institutions similar to Loyola in mission and fit made him an ideal candidate for us. His recruiting and student-athlete development accomplishments will serve him well here at Loyola.”

He takes over a Loyola program that finished the 2010 season with a 14-20 record and tied for sixth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

"I'm thrilled and honored to accept the position at Loyola University Maryland,” Lawrence said. “I would like to thank Jim Paquette, Bill Wnek, and the entire athletics staff for this opportunity. Ibelieve it's an exciting time to join the Loyola family and I'm looking forward to part of it all. I can't wait to get to work building a special volleyball program."

The Pennsylvania native helped Georgetown complete on of the biggest turnarounds in program history during the 2008 season. The Hoyas improved by nine games overall and six in Big East Conference play, moving up from 15th to eighth in the league standings.

Georgetown’s 2008, 2010 and 2011 recruiting classes were honored by PrepVolleyball.com as being amongst the best in the nation. Also, the Hoyas’ Vanessa Dorismond was a two-time All-BIG EAST selection during Lawrence’s tenure. She was Georgetown’s first all-conference honoree since the 2004 season.

Prior to joining the Georgetown staff, Lawrence served for two years as an assistant coach at College of Charleston where he helped the Cougars win back-to-back Southern Conference titles and advance to the NCAAChampionships in 2006 and 2007.

College of Charleston had a high level of individual success during his tenure in South Carolina, as seven Cougars were named to the All-Southern Conference team, and the program boasted the league Freshman of the Year in both of Lawrence’s seasons with the team.

The Cougars’ 2008 recruiting class received High Honorable Mention from PrepVolleyball.com, and the 2007 team had the highest GPA of any College of Charleston team.

Lawrence has also served as the head coach of the Virginia Elite 16-National Team, helping the club to a top-30 finish at nationals and a Chesapeake Region title in 2009. In 2010, his squad finished among the Top 20 team and repeated as region champions. Additionally, three of his players have been named to the USA National High Performance program. One participated on the 2011 Youth National Team and others participated on the 2011 USA Select A2 team and the 2009 Youth National A2 program.

He served as an undergraduate assistant coach at his alma mater, Xavier, helping the Musketeers win the 2004 Atlantic-10 Conference Championship. He also was the head coach of Team Z Volleyball Club, an elite Junior Olympics team in Cincinnati.

Lawrence received his bachelor of arts degree in political science in 2006.
