That was one of the most phenomenal matches Ive ever been a part of. Hawaii is a great team, after being down two games they came storming back.
Im so proud of them, and the Badger fans were fantastic. It came down to us believing we could win. I definitely feel like it was a great way to keep a season going.
Its been amazing what this team has done over the course of the season beating ranked teams.
Thats a long time to go extra points and that just says a lot for the courage and the discipline and the composure of the team. You talk about defense, 90 digs to 78 digs. Thats amazing.
Senior Jill Odenthal
I think that blocking and digging was huge. It definitely gave us the energy we needed to bring us through. I think its a huge sign of maturity.
-On what she told the team before the game:
Things like we have nothing to lose, because we didnt. I t told them in the fifth game you guys better want this game as much as I did, because I wanted this really really bad.
Head Coach Dave Shoji
I told my players this was one of the best volleyball matches Ive ever been involved with as a player or coach. It had every emotion you could ask for. Wisconsin and Hawaii players just put their hearts on the line&just what college athletics is all about.
Emotionally this was unbelievable out there. Im very proud of my team, very impressed with Wisconsin. Technically, tactically we couldnt stop Odenthal. We tried everything and never did slow her down.
I dont know if you noticed when it was 19 all they had two up and blocked her (Sanders) and that might have been a changing point in the game.
I cant give you any reason we didnt win this match as opposed to other matches. We just didnt make the one play we needed. Sure, Wisconsin is a very good team, they made two plays at the end of the match we didnt make.
Sophomore Kanoe Kamanao
I think that at crucial points in crucial times Wisconsin did a good job of getting that crucial point at a crucial time.
- Career high kills for Odenthal (25)
- Wack career high in digs (35), which is also third best in Wisconsin records for a five-game match
- Wisconsin is 0-1 against Regional Final opponent Stanford, with then-No. 1 ranked Stanford winning 3-0 in Madison in 1993
- 30-1 (96.8 winning pct.) is third highest winning percentage in school history
- Juliana Sanders season highs with 14 kills and five block assists
- Kanoe Kamanano career high 66 assists
