SPOKANE, Wash. -- Whitworth College set up an all-Northwest Conference semifinal in the West Regional of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament after the Pirates swept Colorado College 30-20, 30-17, 30-26 at the Whitworth Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

Whitworth, ranked 15th in the latest CSTV/AVCA Division III poll and seeded second in the region, improved to 21-3 and will face fellow NWC member Linfield College in Friday night's second semifinal. Colorado College's season comes to an end with a record of 21-9.

The Pirates, energized by a large home crowd, jumped to a quick 7-2 lead in the first game on an ace by Holly Coleman. The Tigers fought back to within 14-12 on an ace by Meryn Grant. Whitworth extended the lead back to 25-18 on a kill by Julie Marsh before ending the game on a CC attack error.

The second game went much like the first as the Bucs opened leads of 8-4, 16-8 and 23-10. Whitworth won the game on an ace by Marsh.

After the Pirates jumped to another early 10-4 lead, the Tigers refused to go away easily. The lead remained between four and six before a Colorado run, capped by a kill from Anna Clithero, pulled the Tigers within 26-25. But Whitworth scored four of the final five points, including a kill by Whitney Murphy to end the match.

Whitworth's middle blockers controlled the match as Natalie Danielson finished with 12 kills and Carey Guhlke added 11. Danielson, the 2005 NWC Player of the Year, also had five blocks. Holly Coleman dug 12 balls and Bekah Hornor finished with 43 assists. Whitworth hit .276 in the match.

Clithero led the Tigers with 12 kills and nine digs, while Terra Wishon had five blocks. Grant totaled 16 assists. Colorado College hit .113.
