Kearney, Neb. -- The 11th-ranked Abilene Christian Wildcats got a combined 36 kills from senior stars Michelle Bernhardt and Amanda Slate to sweep Metro State (-23, -24, -25) Saturday night in the second round of the Southwest Regional in Kearney, Neb.

The third-seeded Wildcats have now won 31 in a row after an 0-3 start. Metro ends the season at 22-9.

ACU had extra motivation for the match as the Roadrunners handed the 'Cats their last loss, a 3-2 decision, way back on August 27th.

Because of that loss, Metro was the second seed in the regional and ahead of ACU all season in the regional rankings.

ACU dominated throughout, hitting a stellar .341 and winning the dig game by 15, 57-42. The 'Cats also served up nine aces, which off set 10 service errors.

Bernhardt had a match-high 19 kills and hit .312 from the outside and added 11 digs on defense. In the middle, Slate had 17 kills, hit .536 and registered four blocks at the net.

Also, libero Liz Snoddy served up six aces and had a match-high 19 digs with setter Lindsey Martin having 52 assists, three digs, two kills and two blocks.

ACU led the first game from start to finish and then scored seven straight points in the second set to erase an 18-17 deficit.

Metro led the third game 17-15 but a Snoddy ace tied the match and then three straight kills started Abilene's finally run of the night.

Sheena Bohannon (11 kills, four blocks) and Megan Wittenburg (10 kills, 10 digs) paced the Metro attack.
