LOS ANGELES --- Julie Rubenstein led with a team-high 18 kills Saturday as the Pepperdine Waves upset the No. 12 USC Women of Troy, 3-0 (30-28, 30-28, 30-23), in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament. Pepperdine will face Santa Clara, who upset host Stanford, in the third round next weekend.

Pepperdine improves to 19-11 on the season while USC finishes the season with a 17-11 record.

Senior Bibiana Candelas closed out her USC career with 17 kills and a .326 hitting performance (17-2-46). Libero Debora Seilhamer set another USC school record with 30 kills, the most ever in a three-game contest.

The Waves limited the Women of Troy to a .151 hitting performance. Katy Daly had 13 kills and 13 digs for the Waves.

Pepperdine jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the first game before USC rallied to tie the game at 24 apiece. The Waves, however, used a 4-1 streak to take the lead and eventually earn the win.

In game two, Pepperdine again pulled away with the score tied at 24 and broke away with a 23-21 lead in the third game to secure the sweep.
