BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University's volleyball team won a pair of matches to open the Chatham Orthopedics Pirate Classic on Friday. The Fighting Knights topped Flagler 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-13) before beating Queens (N.C.) 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-8) to improve to 8-1 and tie the best start in program history.

Despite a slow start in the first match against the Saints, the Blue and White took a 2-0 lead. Clamping down, the Knights hit a stellar .469 to close out the third frame to go 10-0 all-time against Flagler.

Katie Bradley paced the Knights with 10 kills while Kala Abdell added nine. Haley Pratt chipped in eight to with six each by Sophie Gagnon and Devon Woolard. Woolard would add a match-high 34 assists in the win.

Defensively, Lacy Redwine led LU with a match-best 19 digs. Pratt had five blocks.

In the nightcap, freshman Abbey Brokop set the program record for service aces in a three set match with seven. As a team, the Knights collected an impressive 13 aces to the Royals' one.

Abdell paced the Knights in the win over Queens (N.C) with 10 kills while freshman Chelsey Semprini added nine to match a career-high. Bradley also had nine kills.

Lynn returns to action on Saturday with a pair of key in-region contests to close out the tournament. The Knights face Lander at 1:30 pm before facing the host Pirates at 6 pm.
