The Tritons came out on the short end of the battle of unbeatens, as UCSD drops to 9-1, 1-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while Cal State San Bernardino improves to 8-0, 1-0 CCAA. Sylvia Schmidt led the Tritons with 14 kills while Julia Freidenberg added nine kills on .400 hitting. CSUSB was led by Jane Chafeh with a match-high 21 kills.

After scoring three of the first four points, the Coyotes recovered to take the first set easily at 25-16.

In the second set, the Tritons extended a 12-8 lead into a 16-9 lead after a block assist. The Tritons maintained the seven point lead at 23-16 after a Kaitlin Potter kill and CSUSB service error. Leading 24-18, CSUSB made one last run, cutting the deficit down to 24-21, before Schmidt sent home a kill to tie the match up at 1-1.

UCSD continued its momentum in the third, taking a 9-6 lead after a Condon kill and Williamson ace. CSUSB came right back to tie the set at 10-10 and forced the Tritons to call timeout. The Tritons took a two point lead at 13-11 and 15-13 after back-to-back Freidenberg kills. From that point it was all Coyotes as CSUSB closed the set on a 12-5 run at 25-20.

With UCSD trailing 10-6 in the fourth set, the Coyotes scored 10 straight points to put away any chance for UCSD to force a fifth set. Leading 20-6, CSUSB cruised to the 25-11 win.

CSUSB and UCSD had split the previous 22 meetings between the schools.

UCSD is back in action on Saturday night when it travels to take on Cal Poly Pomona. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. on the Bronco campus.
