Maryville Hands Texas-Dallas First Loss of Season

Maryville College traveled to Southwestern University and the Robertson Center in Georgetown Texas for the first round of the NCAA tournament. Maryville College (30-5) faced off with the University of Texas - Dallas Comets (25-1).
The Lady Scots raked in their first ever post season volleyball win, as they beat the undefeated Comets 3-0 in the first round of NCAA play, with the scores of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-22.
The Lady Scots went up 2-0 in the opening two sets, pinning the undefeated Comets against the wall. Maryville breezed through the first 25-14, as they gained momentum out of the gate.
However, the Comets didn't go away. The second set found the teams tied 4-4 in the opening volleys of the match. The Lady Scots fought back to go up 16-9, only for the Comets to make another flying stance. The University of Dallas came back to 20-18, as the Lady Scots still clinched the lead. Maryville gave another run as they clenched the second match, 25-21.
Opening the third set, each team came out even, going back and forth for a score of 10-10. The Scots came back as the went up 14-11 led by a Kristen Findley's service ace, and a kill by Kara Strickland. That lead was only chopped by MC errors.
A combined block by Maryville's Lindsy Little and Findley, put the Scots up 22-16. The Scots would hold on to win the match with a kill by Findley, making the score 25-22.
Findley led the Scots in kills with 11, as Little followed up with a near double-double. Little chipped in 10 of her own kills, while bringing in nine digs on the night. Kara Strickland had 12 digs on the defensive side of the ball, while following up with eight kills, while Katherine Nadler brought in 11 digs and five kills.
The University of Texas - Dallas' Dana Hilzendager had seven kills, while also having 11 digs. Kyleigh Irish also had seven kills, while Melanie Power lead the defensive side whit 13 digs.
The Maryville College Scots will advance on to the second round of NCAA action to face off with the winner of the Dallas and Southwestern University match. MC's second round match will begin at 7:00 p.m. CST (8:00 p.m. EST) on Friday evening.Head Coach Pepe Fernandez had this to say about his team's victory, "This was a great win for our program and exactly what an NCAA Tournament game should be like. I am so proud of how our girls fought hard and responded every time Mary Washington scored. We will enjoy this win tonight, but tomorrow it's back to work to get ready for Trinity."
The Scots will travel to the state of Texas to take on Trinity College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The game is scheduled for Sunday at 1:00 pm.
