Holland, Mich. - The 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season Champion Heidelberg University volleyball team's season came to a close in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship Great Lakes Regional hosted by Hope College at the DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland, Mich. Heidelberg, the fourth seed, suffered a 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 24-26, 23-25) setback to no. 5 seeded North Central College (35-4).

Heidelberg's championship season concluded with an overall record of 27-7, which ties for second all-time for wins in a single-season. Heidelberg will lose three players to graduation in Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort), Amanda Atchison (Frankfort, Ohio / Frankfort Adena) and Amanda Montgomery (Dayton, Ohio / Carroll). The trio will graduate with the most wins of any class to lead the program.

In set one, North Central used an early 7-2 run to take a 12-7 lead and it would never let up. Heidelberg threatened late in the set pulling within two at 23-21, but North Central held on for an eventual 25-22 win. Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) and Jacki Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview) led the way with five and four kills, respectively.

North Central scored first in set two, but the Berg responded with five-straight points to take charge early on. Heidelberg extended its lead to as many as seven, 13-7, following a 4-0 run. North Central responded late, pulling within one, 24-23, but an attack error gave a 25-23 set two win to the Berg. Haase and Magers each had a service ace in the win.

After an early back and forth battle in set three, Heidelberg went on a 5-1 run to break a 10-10 tie in set three. Heidelberg stayed on top of the scoreboard until North Central forced the sixth tie of the set at 22-22 and went on to outscore the Berg 4-2 for a 26-24 win. Haase reached her 19th double-double for the season in the set. In just three sets she had registered 10 kills and 16 digs. Offensively, Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) tallied five kills for the Berg.

In a hard fought set four, North Central broke a 20-20 tie with two-straight points to force a 'Berg timeout. Haase came out after the break and had a kill, but North Central took advantage of two Heidelberg errors and a kill of their own to win the set 25-23 and the match in four.

For the match, Haase led all players with 14 kills. She rounded out her double-double with 20 digs. Also registering double-digit kills was Street with 11, along with 10 apiece from Atchison and Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway).

Magers joined Haase on the double-double list with 49 assists and 10 digs.

Leading the defense was Reinhart with 4 digs followed by Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) with 27. Also playing strong defensively was Suzy Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview) with 13 digs. At the net, Bevington had five blocks, while Street added four.
