California, PA, Nov. 19, 2009---WVIAC Freshman of the Year Allissa Ware blasted a match-high 11 kills and added 11 digs for a double-double as Wheeling Jesuit swept Gannon 25-18, 25-23, 25-18 in a first round NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament contest.

Missy Gossett added eight kills and three blocks for the Cardinals as they extended their win streak to 26 matches. Megan Ozarzak, Catie Halberstadt, and Emily Borchers each contributed six kills each. Laura O'Reilly garnered a match-best 16 digs.

WJU grabbed a quick 8-3 lead in the opening set and maintained a healthy lead on the way to a 25-18 victory. The second set was much tougher as Gannon jumped out to a 12-5 lead before a pair of Halberstadt aces, along with two kills each for Ozarzak and Ware, sparked an 8-0 Cardinal run. Another 5-0 spurt that gave WJU a 24-20 lead was crucial as the Cards wrapped up a 25-23 win in set two.

A Gossett kill gave Wheeling Jesuit the lead for good at 7-6 in the third set. The Cardinal advantage would grow to seven at 17-10 and Gannon could never close within five as WJU salted away the match with the 25-18 third set triumph.

Gannon (22-10) was led by Kara Cullen and Morgan Reineke, who contributed nine kills apiece. The Golden Knights were limited to a .108 hitting percentage on the evening and were actually under .100 in two of the three sets.

Wheeling Jesuit (36-5) advances to face top-seed and host California (34-5) on Friday evening. The Vulcans downed WJU 26-24, 25-17, 26-24 in a hotly contested regular season match on September 22. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m.
