Bridgeport's Season Ends With Four-Set Loss To Dowling In Third Round

Oakdale, NY-The most successful season in University of Bridgeport volleyball history came to a close on Saturday night, as the number three seed, Purple Knights, were defeated in the 2009 NCAA Division II East Regional Final by the number one seed and host Dowling College Golden Lions in four sets, 25-13, 21-25, 20-25, 23-25.
Bridgeport closes out 2009 with a single-season best record of 33-7. Bridgeport advanced to the NCAA Championship Regional Final in team’s second-ever appearance in the NCAA Championship Tournament under the direction of first-year head coach Leo Uzcategui. Dowling advances to the Elite 8 with an overall record of 29-6.
Junior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) led UB with 16 kills on the night, plus she added 16 digs and two block assists. Masava was joined in double-figure kills by graduate student Agatha Baliddawa (Jinja, Uganda) who had 15 kills with a sparkling .591 attack percentage. Baliddawa also had five blocks (three solos) in the match.
Senior Juliana Moraes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) led the Purple Knights with 20 digs on the night.
