DIVISION III

• Defending national champion Calvin starts the year as the AVCA preseason No. 1. Its season kicks off Friday afternoon against Hiram in the Thomas More Invitational in Kentucky. The Knights won't face their first top-25 opponent until Sept. 16, when they square off with fifth-ranked Wittenberg.

• Second-ranked Emory, which lost to Calvin in the title game last year, kicks off its 25th season by getting into the fire early at the Wittenberg National Invitational. The Knights will face the home school on Friday night and sixth-ranked Juniata on Saturday night.
