WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Washburn improved to 10-0 in season openers under Chris Herron as they won their two matches Friday at the Midwestern State Hampton Inn-vitational. They topped Texas A&M International 3-0  in the opener and then defeated Incarnate Word 3-1.

The Lady Blues had little trouble in the opener. Jessica Fey had nine kills and no errors in 12 attacks for a .750 attack percentage. Breanna Lewis and Mollie Lacy each had seven blocks. Washburn hit .370 as a team in the entire match with a .667 percentage in the second set (8 kills, 0 errors, 12 attacks).

Washburn took a 3-0 lead in the opening set and then a kill from Fey pushed the lead to four at 6-2. The Dustdevils later got within one but a 12-3 run gave Washburn a 10-point lead at 21-11. A kill from Hughes closed out the set for WU.

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Concordia got off to a hot start by sweeping Pittsburg State in the opening match of the Concordia Volleyball Tournament and then downing No. 2 Central Missouri in decisive fashion by a 3-0 score in the nightcap.  The top-ranked Golden Bears extended their home winning streak to 50 with the routs.

Senior Megan Carlson led the way with 27 kills and 20 digs in the two matches. Senior Libero Taylor Fieldsted added 23 digs to lead the defensive effort. Amanda Konetchy dished out 63 assists to help lead Concordia to a pair of early season vicories.

No. 2 Central Missouri 3, No. 9 Wayne State 0
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Central Missouri downed  Wayne State 3-0 Friday afternoon in the season opening game for the Wildcat volleyball team at the Wildwood Lodge Volleyball Classic in St. Paul, Minn.

The first game saw Central Missouri overcome 12 hitting errors to edge the Wildcats 28-26.  Wayne State was effective hitting in the first set with 11 kills and just two attack errors while outhitting Central Missouri .250-.182.  But the Wildcats then had 14 attack errors in the next two games and the Mules then rode momentum from the first game win and cruised in the second game with a 25-11 win and followed that with a 25-18 win against Wayne State in the third game to sweep the contest.

No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino 3, Alaska-Anchorage 0
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Five players contributed no less than a .400 attack percentage Friday night as No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino played an efficient and balanced match in a 3-0 victory against Alaska-Anchorage before a crowd of 206 in Coussoulis Arena.

Senior Megan Johnson led the way with nine kills in 16 attempts and fired a .500 attack percentage and also had two solo blocks, while fellow senior Priscilla Collings added an error-free night with six kills in 14 attempts in the Coyotes' 25-21, 25-17, 25-13 victory over the Seawolves.

TAMPA, Fla. -- With the Tampa Classic in full swing, Tampa won its second match of the tournament against Lewis in three sets.  The win puts the Spartans 2-0 to start the season while the Flyers pick up their first loss with a 2-1 record.

Offensive duo Danielle Selkridge and Holly Reschke shellacked Lewis with 14 and 11 kills respectively.  Freshman setter Kahley Patrick placed 37 assists while posting five kills.  Senior Julie Howlett dug out 12 Flyer attacks followed closely by Eva Dupay with 11 digs.
