SAN ANGELO, Texas -- For the first time since the 1993 season, Angelo State received a national ranking. The Belles are ranked No. 20 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll which was released Monday afternoon.
No. 20 Angelo State cracked the top-25 after starting the season with a 10-0 record. The Belles have posted victories against both Lone Star Conference and South Central Regional rivals to open the year with the best record in program history. Most recently, Angelo State swept through the ASU Invitational with 3-0 victories against Texas A&M International, St. Edward's, Texas-Permian Basin and previously undefeated Edinboro.
“It's been quite a while since we've been listed in the AVCA poll,” Head coach Chuck Waddington said. “It's exciting to be back among the best programs in the country. Hopefully it will help to focus our players to maintain a level of play to keep us there.”
The nationally-ranked Belles look to continue their hot-streak when they host conference foe Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sept. 13.
