ST. LOUIS — No. 3 Washington-St. Louis picked up its 25th win of the season with a 25-12, 25-13, 25-21 win against visiting Webster on Wednesday night.
Senior Lauren Budde led the way for the Bears recording her 11th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Kaia Schwartz added eight kills and hit .500 (8-1-14), while junior Drew Hargrave had eight kills. Junior Marilee Fisher dished out 43 assists and tied a season-high with five kills. As a team the Bears hit .333 (53-15-114) with seven service aces and 10 blocks assists.
Fisher had four kills and 12 assists in the opening set as Washington U. hit .400 (18-4-35) as a team. A block assist by Schwartz and sophomore Megan Odenthal pushed the Bears to a 16-10 lead and forced Webster to call timeout. The Bears closed the set out with a kill by Hargrave.
Washington U. raced out to a 13-6 lead in set two following a service ace by junior Meg Buker, and then a kill by sophomore Megan Byrne made it 19-10 and forced Webster to use its remaining timeout. The Bears hit a blistering .483 (17-3-29) in the second set, as Budde has six kills and Byrne added four.
Jordan Vehlewald led the Gorloks with seven kills and eight digs, while Emily Ratkewicz added five kills. Webster (16-10) was limited to a .082 (21-13-98) hitting percentage, and had seven return errors.
