ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Three Lady Blues had double-figure kills as No. 5 Washburn swept its third straight match this week and won its 18th straight overall, 3-0 (25-12, 29-27, 25-20) at Missouri Western.
Breanna Lewis led Washburn with 11 kills as the Lady Blues improved to 25-1 and 12-0 in the MIAA. Washburn will continue action Tuesday at Missouri Southern in a 7 p.m. match.
Jessica Fey and Jessica Kopp had 10 kills each. Kopp had one error to hit .429 and Fey went error-free in a .526 performance. Hillary Hughes just missed a double-double with 11 digs and nine kills.
Washburn hit .256 as a team and held the Griffons to .108 hitting in the match. Abby Wittman had 24 assists and Amanda Guess added 15. Kelsey Lewis had 12 digs to lead the back row.
No. 1 Tampa 3, Saint Leo 1
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Rebounding from their first loss of the season, No. 1 Tampa defeated Saint Leo 3-1 on Saturday.
The win puts the Spartans back on track with a 25-1 season mark and 12-1 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Lions drop to 12-12 with a 4-6 tally in the SSC.
Outside hitters Eva Dupay, Jessica Yingling and middle hitter Danielle Selkridge led the Spartan charge, totaling 28 kills. Selkridge posted five blocks at the net while Dupay amassed four.
Camille Hanks and Meagan Burke walled three Lion attacks apiece. Four Spartans recorded double-digit digs as libero Julie Howlett and Yingling led with 13.
Setter Kahley Patrick produced a double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs.
Lions middle Danielle Bletso led her team with 13 kills while defensive tandem Corey Ryan and Lauren Campbell combined for 28 digs.
No. 2 Minnesota-Duluth 3, UMary 0
The second-ranked Bulldogs (25-0 overall, 16-0 Northern Sun) needed just one hour to sweep past the University of Mary (2-23, 1-15), winning 25-8, 25-14, 25-18 to extend their undefeated streak to 25.
UMD more than doubled the Marauders’ kill totals, posting 50 to Mary’s 23, and outhitting Mary .352-.128. Junior middle blocker Kalli Lochner had a dozen kills and recorded just one error to lead the team with a .579 hitting percentage.
Sophomore outside hitter Kate Lange continued her solid season with 16 kills and a .316 hitting percentage, as the Bulldogs’ passers were on all afternoon, allowing senior setter Eleena Iisakka to set all three options throughout the match.
No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino 3, Chico State 0
CHICO, Calif. — No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino set a school with its 22nd consecutive win, 3-0 against Chico State in CCAA volleyball action on Saturday.
National Player of the Year Samantha Middleborn led the Coyotes with 10 kills and one error in 20 attacks. CSUSB fired off a .347 attack percentage in the three-set win – its 17th shutout of the season.
Outside hitter Morgan Carty also had nine kills with nine digs on the night and senior libero Kelcie Tolan earned a match-high 12 digs. CSUSB finished with 44 digs and defeated the Wildcats for the 33rd consecutive time (15-8, 10-7).
No. 4 Concordia-St. Paul 3, Augustana (S.D.) 0
Megan Carlson had 15 kills, 13 digs and hit for a .560 percentage as the former-No. 1 Bears bounced back from defeats in each of their past two matches.
Amanda Konetchy had 37 of her team’s 43 assists in the victory, which was the second in five days for the Bears against Augustana.
