Occidental gets hot, moves on
Altman posts 62 assists to guide efficient offensive effort
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Occidental setter Jessie Altman provided a match-best 62 assists and four aces as Occidental eased its way to a 3-2 win against Pacific Lutheran in the first round of the NCAA Championship. She completed her double-double with 11 assists while three Tigers contributed 15 kills, including a match-high 19 from Kasey Rose.
AVCA all-region selection Logan Boyer-Hayse finished with 28 digs and 17 kills.
When Pacific Lutheran passed, it was efficient on offense. In its second- and third-set victories, the Lutes his .250 and .324 as a team, their best marks of the match. Bethany Huston and Kelsie Moore led PLU with 12 kills, and Erin Bremond added 11. Setter Samantha North dished out 47 assists in the loss.
Occidental took the opening set and built what seemed like a comfortable second-set cushion. Pacific Lutheran pulled off a late second-set comeback to even the match and went on to take the third. The Tigers regained control in the fourth frame and used a 6-1 lead to open the fifth to seal the match.
