Cal Lutheran reaches regional final
Record-setting season comes to an end for Chapman in loss
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Chapman's record-setting season came to an end with a three-set loss to No. 17 California Lutheran in the second round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday night at Gilbert Arena. Chapman finishes its season 24-9, its most wins in a season since 1989 when the team won 27 games.
Cal Lutheran (28-6) defeated Chapman for the second time this season, winning in three sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-22). In the decisive third set, Chapman trailed early but tied the game at 15-15. Cal Lutheran maintained a narrow lead for the rest of the way to close out the win and advance to Sunday's regional final against Colorado College.
Junior Ashleigh Gideon had a team-high 12 kills to go along with nine digs followed by the 11 kills from junior Kate Ferrin. Senior Alyssa Swatek had 16 digs in her final game for the Panthers.
Freshman Kylie McLogan led the way for the Regals with 16 kills and eight digs while junior Rachel Smith had 12 kills and five digs. Senior Casy McWhirk had a team-high 16 digs to go along with nine kills.
