Martin leads effort against Arkansas-Fort Smith with 21 kills
WARRENSBURG, Mo. -– No. 13 West Texas A&M defeated Arkansas Fort Smith 3-1 (25-15, 27-25, 25-27, 25-16) in the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament at the University of Central Missouri Multipurpose Building on Thursday.
West Texas A&M was led by Sarah Martin with 21 kills while Ashley Davis had 16 kills. Lauren Beville led the Lady Buffalos defense with 30 digs.
As a team, West Texas A&M hit .230 with 63 kills, 59 assists and 108 digs.
Arkansas Fort Smith’s top contributors were Heidi Luks with 20 kills and Fabiane Nass with 12 kills. Defensively for the Lady Lions, Luks led the team in digs with 24 while Keely Rivera had 23.
The Lady Lions hit .130 for the match with 50 kills, 47 assists and 102 digs.
West Texas A&M improves to 34-2 on the season and advances to Friday’s semifinal match at 5 p.m. against the winner of the Washburn/Arkansas Tech first-round match.
Arkansas Fort Smith ends its 2011 season with a record of 27-8.
