WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Sixth-ranked Central Missouri (30-4) claimed its second consecutive NCAA Division II South Central Regional title with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20) win against fifth-ranked Washburn (32-3) Saturday night at the UCM Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg.
The Jennies were led offensively by Allie Huffman, Paula Harris and Bradye Peniston with 14 kills apiece while Julia Bates dished out 46 assists in the winning effort. Defensively, Taylor Krejci paced the Jennies with 23 digs while Kelsey Ortwerth and Huffman each had 16, respectively. As a team, the Jennies hit .304 with 60 kills, 57 assists and 73 digs.
Washburn was paced by Jessica Kopp with 11 kills while Breanna Lewis chipped in 10. Abby Wittman contributed 29 assists in the match for the Lady Blues. On the defensive side of the ball, Washburn was led by Wittman with 15 digs and Kelsey Lewis with 14, respectively. The Lady Blues hit .169 with 50 kills, 48 assists and 66 digs.
The Jennies improve to 30-4 overall with the win and advance to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals for the second consecutive season. Washburn ends its season at 32-3 overall.
