Dayton earns highest ranking in program history after Classic
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After winning the 2012 Flyer Classic, Dayton is ranked No. 11 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 poll, which is the highest ranking in the program's history.
In the classic, Dayton defeated No. 7 Illinois, No. 11 Pepperdine and the Ohio Bobcats. Dayton entered the tournament having never defeated a top-15 team before defeating Illinois and Pepperdine, in back-to-back matches.
The previous highest ranking came when the Flyers were ranked No. 12 in Oct. 2007 and Nov. 2010.
This is the 48th consecutive week the Flyers have either been ranked or received votes in the AVCA poll.
Janna Krafka tallied 10 digs against No. 7 Illinois to help Dayton to a 3-0 sweep. Against No. 11 Pepperdine Krafka had 20 digs to lead the Flyers. She added another 15 digs in the victory against Ohio. Overall, Krafka led the team in digs (45) and digs per set (4.09).
Rachel Krabacher, an outside hitter, not only had 17 kills against No. 7 Illinois, but became the 20th Dayton Flyer to reach the 1,000 kill mark. She added nine kills against No. 11 Pepperdine and against Ohio she led Dayton with 20.
