Byers becomes seventh USC-Aiken player in history to make 1,000 kills
FLORENCE. S.C. – Shannon Byers joined the prestigious 1,000-kill club at the University of South Carolina Aiken and the Pacers split two matches during the final day of the Francis Marion Invitational.
The Pacers opened Saturday with an easy 3-0 win (25-11, 25-17, 25-15) against Pfeiffer. Newbery was then able to claim a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-21, 25-20) against USC Aiken in the Pacers’ final match of the day.
Byers is the seventh Pacer in the 1,000-kill club. She is now the sixth Pacer to have over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in their career.
After USC Aiken’s opening four matches of the 2012 season, the senior now has 1,010 kills and 1,134 digs in her career.
Teammate Samantha Lukralle closed out the Francis Marion Invitational with 1,710 digs now in her career. The senior is just 44 digs away from overtaking the school record for career digs.
USC Aiken closed out the Francis Marion Invitational with a 2-2 record.
