Northern Kentucky sweeps Providence and remains unbeaten
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Northern Kentucky remained unbeaten by sweeping past Providence, 25-23, 25-15, 25-13, at the Harvard Invitational.
Shelby Buschur collected 10 kills and hit .412 for NKU, which attacked at a .379 clip for the match. The senior middle hitter also added a pair of service aces and upped her career total to 917 kills.
Hayley Lippert also finished with 10 kills and hit .300, while Gennie Galfano hammered down seven kills and attacked at a .500 clip. Setter Jenna Schreiver directed the Norse offense and finished with 36 assists.
Defensive specialist Kylee Tarantino continued her outstanding play in the back row by collecting 10 digs. She now has 1,269 career digs, two shy of fifth place in school history.
Kelly Morrissey, who was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, added six kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Morrissey also served up three aces.
NKU’s 8-0 start is the best by a reclassifying Division I program in its inaugural season since the institution of the NCAA Division I national championship in 1981. Providence dropped to 1-10 this season.
