West Lafayette, Ind. -- No. 4 Nebraska swept the No. 12 Purdue Boilermakers 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-22) Friday at Purdue. With the win, the Huskers improved their record to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten play.

Gina Mancuso led the Huskers with 14 kills (.379) and 10 digs, while Hannah Werth notched 12 kills of her own and Morgan Broekhuis had nine kills. Lauren Cook paced the Husker offense with 38 assists, guiding NU to a .361 hitting percentage. Purdue was held to a .226 hitting percentage for the match.

As expected, both teams came out firing in the first set. The Huskers took a 4-1 lead early on a kill by Werth, while the Boilermakers tied the set at 10-10 on an attack error by the Huskers. Broekhuis punched in a kill, giving the Huskers a 14-12 lead before a service ace put NU up 15-13. Mancuso came up big for the Huskers as she delivered two kills that tied the set at 18-18 and then 19-19. Nebraska took a 20-19 lead on a hitting error by Purdue. Broekhuis and Hayley Thramer teamed up for a block to give NU a 23-21 lead, but Purdue inched back to make it 24-23. A kill by Haggerty sealed the 25-23 first-set win, giving Nebraska a 1-0 lead in the match.

Mancuso led the Huskers in the first set with five kills, while Werth and Meghan Haggerty both notched three. Cook tabbed 14 assists as the Huskers hit .256 for the set. Purdue was held to a .196 hitting percentage. Nebraska posted two team blocks to the Boilermakers’ one team block and NU out-dug Purdue 21-18. 

Nebraska came out fighting the second set, taking a 5-2 lead on a service ace from Mancuso. Nebraska went up 14-6 on an error by the Boilermakers, as a kill by Mancuso gave the Huskers a 15-8 advantage. Purdue strung together a 3-0 run behind solid serving from Ariel Turner as the Husker lead closed to 18-13. Nebraska went up 23-15 on a kill by Haggerty, before NU took the second set 25-16, leading the match 2-0.

Mancuso notched five kills in the second set, while Broekhuis recorded four. Cook tallied 12 assists as the Huskers hit .538 in the set. Purdue hit just .143.

Nebraska and Purdue tied 3-3 early in the third set, while a block from Werth gave NU a 6-5 lead. The Boilermakers and Huskers traded leads, while a double block from Mancuso and Thramer put NU up 11-10. A kill by Werth gave Nebraska a 15-14 lead, but Purdue scored three consecutive points to take a 17-15 advantage. The Huskers came back fighting with the help of two Purdue errors to take an 18-17 lead. Thramer gave Nebraska a 21-20 advantage, but Purdue came back to tie the set at 21-21. An attack error by Purdue gave NU a 23-21 lead. Nebraska would forge ahead, taking the third set 25-22 and completing the three-set sweep.

Werth had seven kills for the Huskers in the third set, while Mancuso recorded four. Cook tabbed 12 assists, as the Huskers hit .444 in the set. Purdue was held to a .250 hitting percentage.
