St. Thomas (Minn.) win streak reaches 33 as Tommies move to semis

HOLLAND, Mich. – Kelly Foley had 10 kills and seven blocks and Jill Greenfield added 12 digs, five aces and eight kills as St. Thomas (Minn.) recorded a 3-0 win against Clarkson in Thursday’s quarterfinal matchup in the Division III Volleyball Championship.

The Tommies won 25-13, 27-25, 25-20. In the third set, a late 5-0 run built a 23-16 lead and helped eliminate Clarkson (31-7).

St. Thomas (38-1) tied a conference record for most wins in a season, and also ran its season victory streak to 33. Coach Thanh Pham’s team plays Friday in the national semifinals — a first in program history.

The Tommies hit .241 on the day and won in the quarterfinal after dropping 3-0 decisions in that round at the national tournament in 2010 and 2011.

Paige Brimeyer had eight kills and no errors, Katie Maher had 23 assists and two aces and Kaiti Wachter added 18 digs for the Tommies
