Previously top-ranked and reigning national champion Concordia-St. Paul dipped to No. 4 in the nation after suffering the first major upset to the now No. 8 Wayne State (Neb.). The Wildcats jumped from the No. 20 ranking after their 3-1 defeat of the six consecutive national champion Golden Bears. Rounding out the top five is Minnesota-Duluth, Nebraska-Kearney, and BYU-HawaiI, all producing undefeated records to start the 2013 season.

Tampa represents the only Sunshine State Conference program ranked in the top 25 while Eckerd College has received votes in the latest poll while regional foe West Florida currently holds the No. 17 ranking.

UT has remained in the top 25 for 231 consecutive polls under the leadership of head coach Chris Catanach. That record is second only to Central Missouri, currently ranked No. 7 in the nation.

The Spartans are led by a strong offensive core of Holly Reschke, Meagan Burke and Jackie Neff alongside transfer Berkeley Whaley. Tampa is hitting at a conference leading .304 clip to start the season while the defense is limiting opponents to a .160 in the first four matches.
