IRVINE, CALIF.
- Junior Ivan Rackov scored six goals and senior Zach White added four to lead top-ranked California past No. 5 UC Irvine, 18-9, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at Anteater Pool Saturday (Oct. 30). Cal's victory over the Anteaters avenged an earlier 9-8 loss to UC Irvine, Oct. 2 in the second round of the SoCal Invitational at UCLA. Kirk Everist's squad has now won six matches in a row.

Rackov scored his first two goals on penalty shots in the first period for the Golden Bears (14-2, 3-0 MPSF), who handed the Anteaters their first home loss of the season. UC Irvine dropped to 13-5 overall, 2-2 in conference play.

Cal led 4-2 after one period, but UCI's Brandon Johnson scored with 6:49 left in the second quarter to cut the margin to 4-3. The Bears then scored 11 straight goals to go up 15-3 on a score by junior Zach Greenwood with 3:29 left in the third quarter.

Besides the goals by Rackov and White, juniors Luka Saponjic and Cory Nasoff added two goals apiece and sophomore goalie Justin Parsons had eight saves in three quarters of action for Cal. Rackov, who leads the Bears and the MPSF in scoring, now has 47 goals in 15 matches this season.

"We focused on our transition attack this week and had a lot of opportunities today which we finished," said Cal associate head coach Boyd Lachance. "We also limited Brandon Johnson and Griffin Lerman to a combined shooting of 3 for 9 and matched up well defensively all game."
