UC Davis takes 9-6 ranked win
Roundup: No. 2 UCLA outpaces No. 5 Pepperdine for victory
DAVIS, Calif. -- Senior goalkeeper Kevin Peat tallied 15 saves while Aaron Salit and redshirt freshman Chris Richardson each scored two goals, leading ninth-ranked UC Davis to a 9-6 win over No. 17 Cal Baptist in the first game of the three-day Aggie Shootout men's water polo tournament Friday night.
The Aggies improve to 9-3 for the season.
Salit scored both of his goals in the first half, helping UC Davis craft a 4-1 lead at the break. Richardson netted his in the second half, allowing the Aggies to hold off the Lancers' third-quarter charge. Anders MacCarthy and Luke Collins each had a goal and assist for UC Davis.
For CBU, senior Brent Troutman had four goals. He scored three of them - two on 6-on-5 chances - during the Lancers' four-goal third period. In his fourth overall goal, Troutman blasted a shot from two meters out to cut the Aggie lead to just 5-4 with 3:13 remaining in the third.
No. 2 UCLA 11, No. 5 Pepperdine 7
LOS ANGELES -- Griffin White scored a team-leading three goals to lead No. 2 UCLA past No. 5 Pepperdine 11-7 in a non-conference match at Spieker Aquatics Center on Friday night.
UCLA (6-1) allowed just one goal in the first half, using a 5-0 scoring run to assume a 5-1 cushion at halftime. The Bruins finished the game having limited Pepperdine to two goals in 11 power-play chances.
UCLA, which returns to action on Saturday at Loyola Marymount, also received two goals each from Brett Hays and Josh Samuels.
