Pacific upsets UC Santa Barbara
Roundup: No. 1 UCLA cruises against No. 11 UC San Diego
STOCKTON, Calif. -- Senior Tom Koning netted the game-winning goal with 4:31 left in the fourth quarter as the No. 8 Pacific upset No. 5 UC Santa Barbara 9-8 Sunday, at UCSB's Campus Pool.
The Tigers improved to 11-9 on the year and 1-4 in league play with the win. The loss dropped UC Santa Barbara to 14-9 and 2-4 in MPSF matches.
Balas Erdelyi notched a hat trick behind a goal at the 7:18 mark of the fourth quarter to bring Pacific back to within one. The Tigers were then able to gain an advantage on their next possession that allowed junior Goran Tomasevic to convert the power-play goal, knotting the game, 8-8.
Pacific completed its comeback a little more than a minute later as Koning netted what would be the game-winning goal with 4:31 left to play.
UC Santa Barbara was led by three goals from junior Brian Shoemaker. Junior goalkeeper Myles Christian tallied 10 saves in the cage.
No. 1 UCLA 9, No. 11 UC San Diego 4
LA JOLLA, Calif. -- No. 1 UCLA defeated No. 11 UC San Diego, 9-4, at the Tritons' Canyonview Pool in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon. Paul Reynolds and Griffin White each scored two goals to lead the Bruins.
Matt Rapacz netted seven saves in the first half in goal for UCLA. James Hartshorne allowed goal and made three saves in the third quarter and first two minutes of the fourth period. Andrew Mesesan played the final six minutes and was not credited with any saves.
No. 7 Long Beach State 12, Air Force 7
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- No. 7 Long Beach State defeated Air Force 12-7 in a non-conference battle at the Campus Pool. The 49ers defeated the Falcons for the third time this season.
Nick Rascon had a first half hat trick on his way to four scores on the day. Devin Mefford totaled three goals across the final four periods.
Long Beach State improved to 14-9, 1-5 while Air Force droped to a 8-16, 5-7.
Five different 49ers scored. Brian Schiefer and Dan Matulis both scored a pair of goals with Aleksandar Petrovic's single goal completing the scoring for LBSU.
