Southern California looks for fourth consecutive national title

Southern California has won the past three national titles and eyes a fourth in as many years when the national championships start on Dec. 3. The Trojans are part of the four-team tournament.

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Men’s Water Polo Committee announced the four teams participating in the 2011 National Collegiate Men’s Water Polo Championship. This year’s championship, hosted by California, will be held Dec. 3 and 4.

In the first game, Southern California (22-3) will play Princeton (21-9). The second game will match UCLA (23-4) versus UC-San Diego (17-9). Game times are 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. ET on Dec. 3. The third-place game will be played at 4 p.m. ET on Dec. 4, with the championship game at 6 p.m. ET.  All four games will be streamed live on NCAA.com.

Conferences receiving automatic qualification included the Collegiate Water Polo Association, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the Western Water Polo Association. The remaining team was selected at-large without geographical restrictions.

In 2010, Southern California defeated California 12-10 in overtime to capture its third consecutive and sixth overall national title.
