No. 8 Arizona St. Falls To No. 5 Cal, 11-9

BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 8 Arizona State University water polo team lost 11-9 to No. 5 California in Berkeley, Calif. on Saturday. The loss drops the Sun Devils to 13-11 overall, 0-6 in the MPSF, on the season, while the Golden Bears improve to 28-5, 3-3 MPSF.
Senior Addison McGrath returned after missing the team's previous three games to score two goals, and juniors Bonnie Miles and Kelly Phelps also had two goals each. Junior Jennifer Campo, sophomore Nikki Unbehaun and freshmen Mariam Salloum added a goal apiece. Sophomore goalie Kaitlyn Morris made her second straight start and had six saves.
Miles scored both of her goals in the first quarter as the two teams were tied 2-2 after the first quarter. The Golden Bears moved ahead in the second and led 6-4 at half, although the Sun Devils climbed within one entering the fourth. ASU tied the game at 9-9 in the final frame, but Cal outscored the Devils 2-0 in the final five minutes to secure the win.
The Sun Devils will complete their regular season at noon on Saturday, when they travel to face MPSF foe No. 7 San Diego State.
