Stockton, Calif. -- Returning to Chris Kjeldsen Pool after six weeks on the road, Pacific's women's water polo team defeated No. 13 Long Beach State 5-3. With the win the Tigers improved to 17-10 (1-2 Big West) on the season while the 49ers fell to 11-13 (0-1 Big West) on the year.

In the highly defensive contest, the Tigers took an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter when freshman Elise Martin found the back of the net at the 6:50 mark. The 49ers attempted to tie the game at one all at the 5:57 spot on the counter attack but freshman Michele Relton came up with critical block on a shot from point blank range. Despite the missed shot attempt, LBSU's Coriann Snyder tied the contest at 1-1 with her lone goal of the day at the 4:50 point. However the Tigers wasted little time looking to regain the one point advantage, when senior Mandy King scored her first of two goals with 4:36 remaining on the clock on the assist from senior Dara Tawarahara.

Pacific expanded its lead to two at the start of the second frame with Mandy King's second goal of day at the 3:35 point. LBSU looked to come within one of the Tigers on a five-meter penalty shot with 3:13 remaining in the half but for the second time on the day Relton came away with a save, blocking Krizia Cerda's shot attempt.

Leading 3-1 at the start of the third quarter the Tiger offense was shutout during the eight minutes of regulation. Even though Pacific's offense was shutout during the frame the Tigers stepped up their defensive efforts and gave up just one goal to LBSU at the 3:13 mark to maintain the lead.

After winning the final sprint of the contest, senior Allie King put the Tigers up by a pair of goals at the 7:30 spot giving Pacific the 4-2 lead. With 7:05 remaining in regulation the 49ers tallied a goal to come within one of the Tigers and looked to tie the game and send it into overtime. However Pacific put the game out of reach when Martin came away with a field block on Pacific's end of the pool at the :35 mark and was followed up with a lob shot from junior Brittany Lloyd with 2 seconds left to play.

The Tigers were led by Mandy King who scored a pair of goals. Also scoring goals for the Tigers were Allison King, Elise Martin and Brittany Lloyd. Freshman Michele Relton recorded 11 saves in the cage.
