INDIANAPOLIS -- The No. 10 Upper Iowa wrestling team completed its first day of competition in second place at the 2010 Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis. The Peacocks racked up 82 points on the day and pushed five wrestlers into the championship bracket while two others are set to compete in the consolation bracket.

Newberry leads the team race with 103 points and has nine wrestlers in the championship bracket.

Among the five Peacocks that are still alive in the championship bracket, Trevor Franklin (125 pounds) earned a 3-0 record including posting a pair of wins by fall to advance to the semifinals. He was joined by Kyle Pedretti (133) with a perfect record through three matches, all by decision. Mitchell Schultz (184) and Carl Broghammer (197) each went 2-0 on the day while heavyweight Zach Rosol earned a pair of falls to advance. 

 

In the consolation bracket, Winston Robbins (157) and Wade Gobin (174) each won three of four matches, losing in the championship quarterfinals. Carleton McGraw (141), Bryce Lumzy (165) and Blake Hilmer (149) each lost two matches to be eliminated.
