Top-ranked Mavs ease by Peacocks
UNO trailed 9-0 before winning six of last eight matches
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- No. 1 Nebraska at Omaha advanced to the semifinals at the NWCA National Duals after a 21-15 win over No. 11 Upper Iowa on Saturday afternoon at the UNI Dome. The Mavs will take on No. 5 Newberry in the semifinals on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The two-time defending tournament champions fell down 9-0 early when Cody Tyler and Sim Bribieseca were defeated in the dual's first two matches. But the Mavs quickly rebounded with a 13-6 win by Mario Morgan, a pin by Esai Dominguez and a 6-5 win by George Ivanov.
After Nathan Sigman lost a 3-1 decision at 165 pounds, UNO reclaimed the lead with two decisions by Ryan Pankoke and Aaron Denson.
Matt Baker clinched the dual victory for the Mavs with a 5-4 decision at 197 pounds. Taylor Escamilla dropped a 7-2 decision at 285 pounds to wrap up the day.
The other semifinal match features the No. 2 seed, St. Cloud State, against the No. 3 seed, Augustana (S.D.). The semifinal winners will square off in the championship dual set for 3 p.m. on Sunday.
