Four forfeits, tech fall lead to SUNY Oneonta rout

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- SUNY Oneonta came away with a 35-9 win against SUNY Cortland in dual-meet action. The Red Dragons got wins at 125, 157 and 184 pounds and received four forfeit wins to account for seven victories against its rival, who entered the week ranked No. 16 in the latest Division III poll.
Sophomore Dave Bailen led off for Oneonta with a tech fall at 125 pounds He defeated John Zastempowski 15-0 in a match that ended early in the third period.
At 157 lbs., sophomore J.P. Sala trailed late in the match 3-2 entering the final period before he scored an escape and a takedown to grab the lead 5-3. Adam Willman then scored an escape to pull to within one before Sala closed out the match with another takedown for the final 7-4 score.
Senior Brian Kramer registered Oneonta’s final win at 184 pounds against Alexander Meyers, 7-3.
Cortland (11-4-1) picked up wins at 149, 165 and 197 pounds, all by decision. Freshman Jake Beichner recorded an 8-2 win against freshman Dan Graff at 149 pounds.
Freshman James Ondris took a 3-1 decision in overtime against Oneonta sophomore Frankie Provenzano at 165. Junior Carl Korpi recorded Cortland’s final win at 197, winning 8-2 against Oneonta freshman Derek Wignall.
