PERHAM, Minn. – Concordia-Moorhead had an historic evening at the Perham MIAC Showcase on Friday as the Cobbers won three duals – including two against NCAA Division III top 10 teams – while two wrestlers broke the school record for career victories.
No. 7-ranked Concordia beat No. 3 Augsburg 26-11 and dominated No. 6 St. John’s 32-10 before beating unranked St. Olaf 42-6 to complete a perfect night. Augsburg is the defending Division III champion.
“It was fun,” Cobbers head coach Clay Nagel said. “A lot of great things happened for our program.”
Seniors Justin Berns (157) and Phil Moenkedick (184) each won three matches to run their career win totals to 125, respecitvely, a new school record. Berns and Moenkedick were teammates in high school for Perham.
“A lot of Perham people here so it was cool,” Nagel said. “It was pretty special for those guys.”
