The NCAA has announced the 170-man field for the NCAA Championships which will be held on March 11-12 on the campus of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Full brackets for each weight will be released on March 6.
Among the field will be eight Bombers — only Wartburg has more NCAA qualifiers as it qualified a wrestler at all 10 weight classes.
Six Bombers earned automatic trips to the NCAA meet by winning their weight class at Saturday’s Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Championships including: junior Seth Ecker at 133 pounds, junior Jeremy Stierly at 141 pounds, senior Blaine Woszczak at 149 pounds, sophomore Derek Brenon at 157 pounds, senior Nick Sanko at 165 pounds and senior David Priest at 174 pounds.
Junior heavyweight Matt Mahon received one of the ECWC’s five wild-card berths, voted on by the league’s coaches. In addition, junior Max Cohen was picked to compete at 125 pounds by the NCAA committee, which chose an additional 10 wrestlers to fill out the weight classes.
Ithaca’s eight national qualifiers are the program’s highest total since 1992, when nine Bombers competed at the NCAA Championships.
