St. Cloud State takes super regional
Huskies place eight NCAA field, most at Super Regional Three
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- St. Cloud State qualified eight wrestlers for the NCAA Championships en route to winning the Super Regional Three team title on Sunday.
The Huskies racked up 131 team points -- 11 more than second-place finisher Augustana (S.D.).
Minnesota State and Upper Iowa tied for third place with 99 points. Wisconsin-Parkside finished fifth (74) and Minnesota State Moorhead was sixth (49).
SCSU 174 pounder Shamus O'Grady, who earned a region title on Sunday, was selected as the Super Regional Three Most Valuable Wrestler, while Husky head coach Steve Costanzo was named the region's coach of the year.
SCSU's eight national qualifiers were the most by any team. Augustana and UIU both qualified seven, while Minnesota State placed six in the national field.
The Huskies also had a tournament-high three individual titles.
