INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- A new uniform style for high school wrestlers has not been approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), such as is being reported by some individuals not associated with the NFHS.

Although the NCAA recently approved a new uniform style for use at the college level, the uniform requirements for high school wrestling have not changed, according to Jerry Diehl, NFHS assistant director and liaison to the NFHS Wrestling Rules Committee.

Rule 4-1-1 of the 2005-06 NFHS Wrestling Rules Book outlines the proper uniform for high school wrestling, and this rule is unchanged from the previous year. Diehl said the timeframe for discussion of any uniform changes in high school wrestling would be at the committees next regularly scheduled meeting in April 2006.

Any questions on the high school wrestling uniform requirements should be directed to Diehl at the NFHS office in Indianapolis at 317-972-6900.
