Championship Time Has Arrived

ERIE, Pa. -- The No. 11 Mercyhurst College wrestling team will host the 2009 NCAA II Super Region 1 Championships this Friday and Saturday, February 27-28 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
Action kicks off on Friday at 4 p.m. with the preliminaries, quarterfinals, and the first and second rounds of consolations.
Wrestling continues at 10 a.m. on Satruday, with the championship matches schedule for a 2:30 p.m. start.
Doors will open each day one hour before the scheduled start time. Individual session tickets for the event are $7 per adult and $4 for students while all-session passes may be purchased for $15 adults / $10 student.

• The regional will feature five teams from Super Region 1 that are ranked in the nation’s top 20. Individually, 16 grapplers who are ranked in the nation’s top eight of their respective weight class will be in attendance.
MERCYHURST SETS WINS RECORD
• The 23-18 victory over Findlay was the eighth-straight for the Lakers and raised their record to 16-5-1, setting the program record for season dual-meet victories and winning percentage, eclipsing the 2005-06 squad that went 15-8.
INDIVIDUALS SET LAKER RECORDS
• Contributing to one of the best year’s in program history, the Lakers Payne Lint (125) and Andy Lamancusa (157) have set new single season marks for Mercyhurst. The two share the title for single-season major decisions (9) while Lamancusa’s 125 takedowns and five technical falls also represent single-season highs. At 141, Lance Pitcel has turned in 84 escapes for a new single-season mark in that categtory.

• With his latest victory, Payne Lint moved into sole possession of sixth place on the
Mercyhurst all-time wins list. He now stands at 85-61, needing four victories to take over fifth place.
