No. 4 Ithaca bombs Oneota 37-6
Bombers win 24th consecutive dual against Red Dragons
ITHACA, N.Y. – Fourth-ranked Ithaca (10-2) scored the first 21 points of the match during won four consecutive wins before finishing with a 37 -6 romp against Oneonta (9-5-1). The win was Ithaca’s 24th consecutive against the Red Dragons and raised the Bomber lead in the series to 32-7-1.
Senior David Priest, one of five nationally ranked Bombers to wrestle Thursday night, clinched the Ithaca win with a 15-3 major decision at 174 pounds.
Priest, who is ranked ninth at 174 pounds, picked up his team-leading seventh major decision of the season. He’s now 17-3 this season (10-2 against dual meet opponents) and 94-29 in his career and just six victories away from becoming the 17th Bomber to reach 100 wins.
Junior Max Cohen started the competition with an 18-6 major decision, his third of the season, at 125 pounds.
Junior Seth Ecker, ranked third nationally at 133, recorded his sixth fall of the season. Ecker, who was leading 4-1 before pinning his opponent in 1:01, is 21-4 this winter and 10-2 in dual meets with bonus points in 13 of his victories.
Second-ranked Jeremy Stierly outscored his opponent 16-0 at 141 pounds en route to a technical fall.
Senior Blaine Woszczak stretched his winning streak to 14 matches, recording a pin 1:18 into his bout. The pin was Woszczak’s sixth of the season. With a career record of 127-34, he’s two wins away from tying Bob Panariello (1981-85) atop Ithaca’s all-time victory list.
Senior Nick Sanko improved to 12-5 on the season by winning 4-1 at 165 pounds. His career record now stands at 32-17.
Freshman Shane Bartrum picked up his fourth win of the season, outscoring his opponent 9-2 at 197 pounds.
Junior heavyweight Matt Mahon notched his 14th pin of the season, opening a 12-3 lead before finishing the bout in 5:26. The fourth-ranked Mahon is now 64-21 in his career with 42 falls.
