UW-Whitewater wins Whitehill Duals
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — No. 18 Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated 23rd-ranked Springfield 27-9 on Saturday afternoon to win the championship of the Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming.

UW-W defeated No. 26 Ohio Northern in a semifinal Saturday morning, and swept three matches Friday to advance to the championship match. Whitewater is now 14-6 overall in dual meets, including 14-5 versus Division III competition. In addition to the two wins against ranked teams Saturday, UW-W defeated No. 30 Wabash on Friday.
Both of UW-Whitewater’s nationally-ranked wrestlers went undefeated in the tournament.
Corey Anderson, who is ranked third at 285 pounds, went 4-0 while Jake Fredrickson, the sixth-ranked wrestler nationally at 133 pounds, was 5-0. They were joined by freshman Mike Schloegel, who finished the weekend 5-0 at 125 pounds.
Nine of the sixteen teams in the field were among the top 30 in the NWCA poll.
Ohio Northern had a pair of ranked wrestlers against the Warhawks, with William Painter ranked fifth at 165 pounds and Kyle Kwiat third at 174.
A day earlier, UW-Whitewater won three dual meets on the first day of the Whitehill Duals, defeating Case Western Reserve 39-14 and King’s 38-6. It then advanced to the semifinals of the tournament with a 22-12 win against Wabash.
Whitewater’s Jake Fredrickson, ranked sixth at 133, led the way Friday with a pair of major decisions. Anderson also picked up a major decision against Wabash and added a pin vs. Kevin Trant of King College.
