Southwick picks up ninth pin of season, 26th in past two years

PARKSIDE, Wis. — The longer the Ranger Duals went on Saturday, the better No. 18 Ashland performed. The Eagles opened the day with a 23-13 victory against 17th-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato. Next came a 30-6 dressing down of ninth-ranked Wisconsin-Parkside, the tournament host.

Finally, during the late afternoon session, the Eagles turned back Indianapolis 33-6.

The three wins follow a 3-0 day at the Wendy’s Mid-Atlantic Duals a week ago. AU is now 7-1 in dual meet action.

Senior 285-pounder Jacob Southwick was 3-0 with a pair of pins on Saturday. Southwick has 26 pins since the start of 2010 including nine pins this season as part of a 16-2 record.

Freshman Joe Brandt was also 3-0 Saturday at 197 pounds and sophomore Adli Edwards was perfect in three matches at 133 pounds. At 149 pounds, enior Marc Hoff was the other Eagle to go 3-0.  

At 157 pounds, junior Dan Genetin went 2-1 with a technical fall and a major decision.
