Central Oklahoma jumps out early
Bronchos win 13 of first 14 matches, takes Super Regional II lead
EDMOND, Okla. – No. 6 Central Oklahoma pushed nine wrestlers into the semifinals and has a 10-point lead in the team race after the first day of the Division II Super Regional II Championships on Saturday.
The host Bronchos won 13 of 14 matches on the day -- earning bonus points in nine of those -- and finished the day with 73 points. No. 18 King (Tenn.) is second in the 11-team field with 63 points and five semifinalists.
No. 15 Limestone has six wrestlers in the semifinals and is third in the team race with 57.5 points, followed by No. 13 Findlay with 53 points and five semifinalists and No. 10 Ashland with 52 points and six in the semis.
The top-four placers from each of the 10 weights advance to the Division II Wrestling Championships, set for March 9-10 in Pueblo, Colo.
Moving into the semifinals for UCO were 133-pounder Dustin Reed, Casy Rowell (141), Ky Corley (149), Cory Dauphin (157), Chris Watson (165), Kelly Henderson (174), Tanner Keck (184), Jarrett Edison (197) and heavyweight Cody Dauphin. Ryan Brooks is in the consolation semifinals at 125 pounds.
Making the semifinals for King were 125-pounder Jerelle McCabe, Cullen King (133), Twyan Claxton (141), Charles Morgan (197) and heavyweight Dondricus Anderson. The Tornado have three others still alive in the consolations.
