Central Okla. rolls at Super Regional
Corley comes up as only winner for Bronchos on final day
EDMOND, Okla. -- Ky Corley was No. 6 Central Oklahoma's lone individual champion but the Bronchos had eight other top-four finishers in running away Super Regional II Championships title on Sunday.
UCO ended up with 127.5 points in the two-day, 11-team tournament to capture its first regional crown since 2008 and qualified nine wrestlers for the national tournament.
Findlay was second in the team race with 102 points, followed by Ashland (96.5), Limestone (93) and King (91.5).
Corley took the 149-pound title with a 2-1 finals upset of third-ranked Ryan Maus of Truman State. UCO also got runner-up finishes from 141-pounder Casy Rowell, 174-pounder Kelly Henderson and 184-pounder Tanner Keck.
Cory Dauphin (157 pounds), Jarrett Edison (197 pounds) and Cody Dauphin (heavyweight) all came in third, while 133-pounder Dustin Reed and 165-pounder Chris Watson placed fourth by winning challenge matches to earn national tournament berths. Ryan Brooks (125 pounds) placed fifth to just miss out on nationals.
“We had to fight and scratch for everything we got today,” UCO coach David James said. “Our guys were really wanting to win this thing here and that was obviously a goal for them. You have to get to the national tournament to have a chance to do anything and we qualified nine guys, so we're looking forward to seeing what we can do.”
