ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- For the second consecutive year, No. 1 St. Cloud State claimed the Super Regional III Championship and this time it was on their home mat.

The Huskies sent four wrestlers to the championship bout and won an individual title at 165 pounds where Tad Merritt defeated Blake Sorensen of Upper Iowa by a 16-4 major decision. It was the second regional title for Merritt.

St. Cloud State advanced seven individuals to the NCAA Division II National Championships. The Huskies were the 2011 NCAA runner-up.

St. Cloud State posted 164.0 points and beat runner-up Upper Iowa (155.5) in the 12-team field.

Merritt was named the wrestler of the meet and St. Cloud State head coach Steve Costanzo was tabbed as the coach of the year.

Indanapolis' Josh Kieffer earned the honor as the freshman of the year.
